This is one of a series of BCIDs I accidentally used twice. May come up as One Step Behind by Mankell or Mr Clarinet by Stone. Apologies for screwing this up! I think there are about four books with this problem that I forgot to cross off my list of preprinted label numbers. DYFFERENT
Mr Clarinet, picked up in Great Expectations. Thanks to dyfferent for sorting out the BCID.
Max Mingus, ex-cop, ex-PI and ex-con, is offered $10 million to find the missing son of a Haitian businessman. The problem is that his predecessors on the case have been killed - or worse. And when he arrives, Max finds that Charlie is not the only child to go missing in Haiti, where children's spirits are much prized in black magic. Can Max find Charlie and stop the child abductors?
A superior thriller, and the detailed descriptions of life and politics in Haiti give the novel much greater depth than some others in the genre. The twists and turns kept me guessing until the end.
