In 1963, Oe joined a commission to report on the condition of Hiroshima and its victims. At the same time, he and his wife were struggling with the decision whether to let their newborn son die or risk an operation that would leave him permanently brain-damaged.

This will probably be next year's Hiroshima Day release.

Released 8 yrs ago (8/6/2010 UTC) at University of Chicago (see release notes for details) in Chicago, Illinois USA

WILD RELEASE NOTES:

I plan to leave this by Henry Moore's Nuclear Energy sculpture, on Ellis Avenue between 56th and 57th Streets, probably between 6:00 and 6:30 a.m.

This is near the site of the first self-sustaining, controlled nuclear chain reaction, which occurred in a squash court under the bleachers of the now-demolished Stagg Field.

Unfortunately, this release had to be cancelled. The sculpture isn't accessible due to construction of an addition to Regenstein Library.

Released 6 yrs ago (8/6/2012 UTC) at University of Chicago (see release notes for details) in Chicago, Illinois USA

WILD RELEASE NOTES:

Construction on the new library being finished, I was able to make this Hiroshima Day release at the previously intended location.
