Maya Angelou's early days, from ages 3 to 16. She grows through some amazing situations and locations over these years. This is a story of her childhood as well as a history, geography and cultural lesson of that time where we are exposed to a variety of thoughts, feelings and customs.

Will be passing this on to cestmoi at the Feb. meet-up with the kind assistance of wordfiendca who is being forced to schlep a number of books between us all.

I read one other book by Maya Angelou and it was more poetry and life observations than an autobiography but it got me interested in her life, so I am sure this one will be enlightening and answer some questions I had about her. Thanks Penhaligon, I'll journal again when I've read it.

Just started this today and her writing style is so lyrical and entrancing that the pages just flow one into another - before I knew it I was 1/4 of the way in. Her reflections on her childhood and the love she has for her brother and "Momma" are so crystal clear that I can see all the events taking place.
I'll journal again - thanks so much Sue, for passing this one along to me.

More!!! She just had a baby! What happens next???? How does she support herself and her son??? How does the child turn out as an adult???

I was really surprised at her parents' acceptance and emotional support about her pregnancy, considering the times she grew up in. I'm wondering if her "acceptance" of the pregnancy as her own fault was true at the time it happened or if that came with years of experience and wisdom and the benefit of hindsight.

This is an eloquently written biography that had me truly wanting to know the rest of her story.

Sending this off to Amatullah in a trade. Enjoy!

I was kind of disappointed in this early-years-autobiography. I guess there were a couple of pearls of wisdom in there but really...I expected more from Maya Angelou. The style flowed making it a Very Easy read.

I'll be releasing this one in the wild soon unless someone pm's me about it before I get a chance.
