I read the illustrated edition of this book when I was in gradeschool and fell in love with Henry's horse books. This one is my favorites of hers.

Registering this for Spacedog's Newberry Ring round 3. This will be sent off to bookhunter21.

This is a very moving book. I whipped right through it, mostly because I knew it had a happy ending. (I don't think that's a spoiler.) I, too, loved Henry's books when I was growing up, and this was right up there with the Chincoteague ponies and Brighty. I will be sending it to tuff517 with Missing May and The Grey King this week.

I did like this book, but gad! these Newbery winners are a sad group of books, aren't they? Didn't any fun books ever win, other than Mr. Popper's Penguins?

Sent today, August 23, to Dixie.

Cute story. I'm not much into horse stories, but I had a lot of friends who were when I was younger. I was into dog stories, ha! Will send this along with the other 2 to spacedog.

pretty good. i haven't really read any horse books like this, so that was novel, although there was a lot of horse jargon that i was unfamiliar with that wasn't really explained. the picaresque section in the middle got a bit slow, but the ending was great. making a mute muslim boy the central character was very refreshing, and there were some surprisingly emotionally sophisticated moments. wikipedia has some additional interesting info about the godolphin arabian. (and apparently it was also a movie.) henry won two other newbery honors, so it'll be nice to read another of her books.

Arrived here safely - love the cover art on this book! Will start reading this weekend.

Finished this over the weekend. I had read it as a child along with every other Marguerite Henry book I could find (like Rosalinde & bookhunter21). I was one of those girls who fell in love with horses (well, really I loved dogs & cats too) in elementary school, so I am familiar with the horse terminology.

This time around, the book made me wonder what life would be like if you were not be able to speak at all. Agba seemed to handle it with grace and dignity - I'm not sure I could do as well.

Will mail out to yokaye this week along with Jacob Have I Loved.

Update 2/21 - Mailed today.

This story didn't draw me in like I expected it to. A nice, touching story, but it just didn't catch my imagination. Maybe it's because I was more into mysteries than horse stories when I was younger? ;)

Sending along this weekend.
