For anyone who has not come across Mary Wesley's writing before, this is a good start. She writes about people and their lives, emotions etc, and her books are wonderful to curl up with on a rainy evening by a fire - a classic "good read".

There is a certain rhythm to Mary Wesley's writing, and, once you get caught up with it, it becomes hypnotic. She is a wonderful writer, with a real gift for language, and well as the ability to create real, imperfect characters. It reads like a real classic, where the very real changes in the world and historical events are not as important as the eternal truths about parents, children, self-knowledge, and love.

"A Sensible Life" is my first Mary Wesley book, and I am grateful to Herschelian for introducting me to her.
