lovely, detailed, lonely, funny, intriguing - a shining gem of a novel.

the "letter" section (the last third of the book) was quite believable and sometimes moving (especially the mother/daughter stuff), although i doubted the relationship between eva and owen. the majority of the book was (for me) often difficult to slog through - the sciencey stuff made me fidget, and i found most of the characters tiresome. it was a very uneven sort of story, which i persevered with ''cause grooble loved it (and i tend to pay attention to stuff she recommends, ''cause more often than not our tastes line up with each other). i''m afraid our opinions of "the secret cure" are miles apart this time, groobs!

i''m going to send this on to hinerangi, when i return her jennifer fallon books. maybe she''ll appreciate it more than me.... :)

Thanks Cosminx - this looks like a change of pace for me. I'm looking forward to it.

Never did get round to finishing this one - I started a couple of times, and each time found myself bogged down within a few pages, so I'll hand it to Arrietty who will take it to the Melbourn Convention, where I'm sure it will have a lot of admirers.

Picked up from the 'table of temptation' at the Melbourne convention.
