I am the author of this book, which has been getting rave reivews. It's the story of a young woman named Jessica who survives the Quantrill raid of Lawrence in which 200 innocent civilians are killed (i.e., the first act of terrorism on U.S. soil) and she goes on to use the power of her pen to persuade Congress to abolish slavery. Along the way she meets two important men in her life--Walt Whitman and Abraham Lincoln.
