this book was donated to our library
Found in the library at the Hermitage. We came up to Mt Cook especially because we'd noticed that the Hermitage had a bookcrossing bookshelf - unfortunately, we couldn't afford to stay at the Hermitage itself, but we did have a meal there. It was very exciting to see all the bookcrossing books there, so we took a few and left some more in return.
Pity about all the rain, but hopefully we'll be able to make another trip up to Mt Cook again in better weather.

Deals with some rather heavy themes for a children's book, but they're handled in a very sensitive way, so I don't think many kids would have any problem with them. It's good when children's books are thought-provoking, anyway!
The sense of historical period is good too - it's obvious the author has really done her research, but she doesn't ram it down your throat like some authors do, it just adds to the overall flavour of the story.
