Trade paperback from charity shop, good condition. I haven't read this yet, but decided to send it on a ring. I'll read it when it comes back home.

I will be offering a ring for this trade paperback since SqueakyChu's got stalled. You can see previous entries here:

Here's a short synopsis:
"In mapping Jerry's world, a small patch of Long Island somewhere between Cheever country and Gatsby's vanished green Eden, Lee gives us telling snapshots of the middle class and how one man comes to terms with 'the plain stupid luck of your draw in a macrocosm rigged with absolutely nothing particular about you in mind'. A wise, keenly observed, and even more keenly felt picture of the 'endlessly curious circumstance and befuddlement that attends to the hero's life'." [Michiko Kakutani of The New York Times]

Arrived today - thanks affinity books - got two to read before this but should get on it pretty quickly! :o)

I found this book hard to get into, I tried it a couple of times and switched to other smaller reads before returning to it so that I could pass it on as quickly as possible, I even thought about giving up and just sending it on but in the end I persevered and I’m very glad that I did.

It’s a beautifully written novel but one that I don’t really know how to explain all I can say is that although I found it a struggle getting into the story to begin with once I’d taken to Jerry’s character I found it more and more compelling, I needed to find out how Jerry would deal (or not deal) with the next episode in his life, things just seem to happen around him and he doesn’t seem to have any control of anything.

I’ve sent this onto tagesmann today so it should be in Sheffield in a couple of days.

Arrived today.
I'm afraid that it may take me a while to read as I am halfway through A Suitable Boy and then I have two bokrings and a book group novel to read before I can get to this one. But I will do my best to get through these as quickly as posible.

Sorry it has taken me so long to get to this book.

I thoroughly enjoyed this novel. Initially I wasn't sure what was the story was going to be about or whether there was even going to be a story. But I was rewarded with a deeply moving story.

Finally read this one. Not a quick read for me, it took time to think about the things. Very beautiful novel, indeed.

Sent off to affinity4books today.
Hope it will arrive safely!
