Agatha Raisin book 5

Good Book Guide
Another superb amateur sleuthing mystery from M C Beaton.

Synopsis
The morning of Agatha's marriage to her neighbour James Lacey dawns bright and clear. But the storm clouds of the day before would have been more appropriate when Agatha's first husband, Jimmy Raisin, turns up at the church just in time to keep her from committing bigamy. The ensuing uproar - Agatha tries to strangle Jimmy, whom she had thought long-dead anyway - embarrasses James, who abruptly breaks the engagement. When Jimmy is found murdered the next morning, Agatha and James are the prime suspects. Since the easiest way to clear their names is to find the real murderer, Agatha convinces James to help her investigate. But will their subsequent close proximity - which has them, ironically, pretending to be man and wife - be enough to win James second time around?

Journal Entry 5 by WistfulDragon from Streatham, Greater London United Kingdom on Wednesday, July 19, 2006
Just brilliant! Some more realism injected into the grand romance, a great mystery, and a nice red herring that got me thoroughly hooked. Thank you, Rillaith!

Journal Entry 6 by Rillaith from Wokingham, Berkshire United Kingdom on Wednesday, August 16, 2006
Another great book in the series. The lengths these people go to! Heh.

Off to Scotsbookie with the next 2 books as well.

Updated: I had this book postit-note marked for AnglersRest and didn't double-check before posting... so although I'll be sending book 7 on to Scotsbookie, these two (5 & 6) are going to AnglersRest first as originally planned. I've corrected the list to reflect this! Sorry for the confusion! Good thing I'm the ring organiser and can claim "whim", right? ;)

Another nice story - I like reading these long series where you get to know the characters more and more as time goes on. It is like slipping on a comfy pair of slippers. Thanks for sharing. I am reading another book or two before I get onto the next one in the series - as I know IoJima has just came back from her hols and has lots of books which have just arrived and need reading!

Journal Entry 16 by Iojima from Nyons, Rhône-Alpes France on Tuesday, December 19, 2006

As I am rather ring-bound at the moment I am sending this off to the next person on the list and hope to get it back later when I'll hopefully have caught up with earlier books in the series.

Off to CaterinaAnna.

Journal Entry 20 by Caterinaanna from Coventry, West Midlands United Kingdom on Wednesday, March 21, 2007
Arrived late last week (Thursday?) and bad Bookcrosser as I am at the moment, I didn't journal their safe arrival.

However, being in the midst of several non-fiction rings at the moment, I decided I needed a little escapism and read this and its companion pretty much straight away. As usual, it proved to be fun and a quick and easy read that brightened a dull weekend.

I think that in this one Agatha comes across as a more sympathetic character than in any of the others I have read so far.

On its way to WelshHelen in my next parcelling session.

Journal Entry 22 by loopy1 from Herne Bay, Kent United Kingdom on Monday, April 2, 2007
Thanks, this arrived this morning with another of the series. I now gather this is the first of the pair, so I'll be reading it next time I sit down to read a book, which I must make very, very soon, as it's ages since I last read a book properly.

Journal Entry 23 by loopy1 from Herne Bay, Kent United Kingdom on Wednesday, April 18, 2007
I've read and enjoyed this book. I find the writing a little clumsy at times, which is good because in spotting that I know my writing must be improving because I can see what's wrong. But the plot is enjoyable, and the characters entertaining.
I'm currently halfway through the second book of the pair, then I'll be sending both on.
