This is an advanced reader's copy with a different cover. This book is made up of loosely connected short stories about a village in Portugal. I have trouble with books like this that aren't very linear. I had trouble keeping all of the characters straight. Having said that, this is a well written book which has made me move my Brick Lane book up near the top of Mt. TBR. This is available!

I was afraid that Monica Ali would fall victim to a sophomore jinx, but this is a lovely book - in some ways I think even better than Brick Lane. Some absolutely wonderful writing and some acute and deeply perceptive commentary on human frailties. I kept changing my mind about which section was my favourite as I read each successive installment. Really a very enjoyable and satisfying read. I think Monica Ali will become a writer to be reckoned with in years to come. Thank you for sharing.

Try as I might (and I tried pretty hard) to like this, I found that I just couldn't get into it. =( For now, I'll set it to available and hopefully I'll find a new reader soon who can appreciate it more than I did!
