Started this book and I have to be honest, I did consider after the first chapter wild releasing it without finishing it. Am I glad I persevered!!
This book paints a picture of The Great War that, I imagine, some people may find upsetting. However, it is done - not for the sheer bedevillment of it, but because it is necessary for the reader to understand just how bleak it was in the trenches of Ypres.
I found it very difficult to put this book down once I had got into the story. I have to say, after reading this book, it makes me proud to be a member of the Royal British Legion helping members of our armed forces - both retired and serving and their families.
For anyone who doesn't realise, these are the poppies of Flanders fields.

Passing on to a friend for her to read on holiday in Antigua. She'll leave it there for me too.
