I was travelling in Madeira with my boyfriend, and one evening we barely avoided a catastrophy. We had arrived from a day trip and were planning to stop at our hotel before an evening out watching fireworks. But since we were so hungry, it made sense to stay downtown and eat first, and it was clear that then there would be no point to go to the hotel before the fireworks.

All was well, except - we hadn't taken enough books to read while passing the time! We knew there was an OBCZ in Funchal - we had dropped some books there before - but all the books there were in Portuguese, which we don't speak! Apart from the ones we brought, of course. In this dire situation we were forced to find a book shop that was still open and buy some books.

Thanks to our lucky stars, we found a book shop! I bought Jose Saramago's brilliant novel called The Cave, and my boyfriend Erinne went for Shakespeare. I don't think he ever got around reading to it, though, because we had one book with us and he could finish that first. He just liked the safety of having yet another book in the backpack, just in case.

Now that we're back home, I can release this book. Erinne could release it himself, being a bookcrosser, but he's too much of a lazy bastard. We have all the Shakespeare in our permanent collection, so there's no need to keep this copy. It's brand new, though, never been read, so I'm confident it can take some heavy travelling yet.
