I'd enjoyed Bouden's In Bed with David & Jonathan very much, and when I found out that he'd done a previous book I had to have it. This one's not as all-out porn as the other (though there are plenty of scenes of explicit sex here as well); it's a coming-of-age story about Max, who's shy and more than a bit confused about his own desires, spending a lot of time in a fantasy world. Then he meets new-kid-in-town Sven, and promptly falls in love with him - though it turns out that Sven isn't gay. He's a good friend, though, and his friendship helps Max through the turbulent teen years and beyond. The story's very touching, but very funny, too - those awkward moments common to most kids at some point or other will ring very true. And there are riffs on "gay culture" that remind me of Michael Thomas Ford's essay about needing a handbook to get all the codes and buzzwords right...

In addition to the main story of Max and Sven, there are a number of shorter strips which feature many of the same characters but reveal little episodes later in their lives - funny and/or bitchy, and very entertaining.
