might be a 10... or an 8...i don't remember....it's been over a decade since I read this book and I've kept thinking I'd read it again... I wild-released my original copy for the May Race to 50 (having not gotten the round tuit), and realized I was especially disappointed that this one wasn't journalled....so now I have another copy, and shall reread it before sending it on...
this is a book I wish I'd read before my sister died too young of breast cancer. But it came to me in the year after, and I bawled buckets in the reading....so maybe the timing was good, a catharsis.
"A gifted storyteller with a fine sense of pace and phrasing, as well as a splendid ear for dialogue"
Boston Sunday Globe
"Wickedly funny....It's incredibly accurate in revealing what women talk about when they know each other well and are running out of time."
Minneapolis Star Tribune
"Absorbing....well-crafted...Far from being depressing, this is an unexpectedly lively book."
Houston Post

this will be going out this week to KarmelK then yokaye for the Well-Travelled Wild Release Challenge, so I am re-reading this copy before I send it on.
So far, with the distance of time, I think perhaps I am able to smile more...

On re-reading 'Talk,' I found it to be funny, sad, beautiful, and most of all life-affirming. This is not a book about dying, it is a book about living!
in the mail today to do some travellin' for the Well-Travelled Wild Release Challenge! Headin' out to KarmelK who will make a wonderful label for us, then on to yokaye. We've all lost sisters dear to us, and this book is being released in their memory.

I was done reading this really quickly. I did like it, despite not liking Ruth's character much. But I could identify with Ann. I would like to be that kind of friend, sister, daughter: Being there for the person I love, despite what she's going through or who or what I have to 'endure' to keep being there. The humor was wonderful; the emotion, real. It's not one I could read again. Costs too much- emotionally.
Most of the time taken on this has been with the label. I've finally finished and will be sending this on to yokaye very soon.

Sent to Yokaye for the Well-Traveled Wild Release Challenge.
This came in the mail on Nov 3rd, and I had to put it aside until after my dd's sleepover that weekend because I knew it was going to be a tearjerker.
LOVE the label. I can't stand to look at it for long, though... *sigh*
Erishkigal was completely right...this is all about living, not about dying. I enjoyed the read, but don't think I would ever be able to pick it up again, knowing what an emotional journey it was to read in the first place. It's much like a roller coaster, this book, in that every page takes you from laughter to tears and back again.
I loved Ruth and her hodge podge of friends, and I saw a bit of myself in every one of them.
I'm ready to send this book and it's beautiful message on to someone else . . .
Will release soon for the Well Travelled Wild Release Challenge.
