Mike Noonan, a mildly successful author, experiences great tragedy when his beloved wife, Joanna, dies suddenly from a brain aneurysm. When he travels to their summer home, entitled Sara Laughs, to properly grieve his late wife, he encounters a poor, young widow whose daughter is greedily coveted by her wealthy grandfather. Noonan is instantly immersed in a struggle between an old billionaire and his daughter in law's child. While doing all that he can for his widow friend, Mike unravels another mystery in Sara Laughs. He discovers another presence is in the house with him and refuses to leave until Mike learns what the presence wants him to learn. At first, he thinks the ghost is that of his wife, Joanna, but the more powerful the presence becomes, the more Mike is forced to question its true identity and... his own safety.

BAG OF BONES is a legal drama, a romance, a mystery and a ghost story, and that last takes a back seat for much of the book. King wisely baits us with hints -- a quiet incident here or there, often at the end of a chapter of heavy character and plot development. I wasn't that pleased with the ending as it left some unanswered questions. But aside form that it was a great book. I don't always rush to read a Stephen King novel because he sometimes gets to involved in setting up the story that I loose interest . This story was different from most of his previous works .I wasn't sure I even wanted to read it at first but it was the book of the month for PBSMO so I jumped in and I am glad I did!.

Sent this out as part of a trde.

Received as a trade from Katt66...Thanks and I promise to get your book to you soon!
I look forward to reading this and comparing it to other works by King!

Well, to start off, this is an exceedingly long book. My husband read it first and then encouraged me to read it. I read it, it took forever, and by the time I was done he'd finished one and was halfway through another book, so had little interest in discussing it with me.
I have to say, I really enjoy Stephen King's work. This book, however, was far from my favorite. It was about 100 pages longer than it needed to be (maybe more, but I could easily slice 100)...it was incredibly slow to get going...I was half way through the book and still finding it boring and tedious and I actually pondered giving up on it, which is quite rare for me. I kept with it though. I'd like to say that the last third of the book made the wait worth it, and while it WAS much quicker paced and more interesting, I still didn't necessarily feel justified in the amount of time I invested.
I'm going to drop this book off at my OBCZ and see if it gets to travel a bit.
