By coincidence I read Canal Dreams last year so it's familiar enough to give it a score! I've read all Banks's fiction work tho I'm not a fan of his Sci-Fi - penned under the name of Iain M Banks. But IMO this is one of his least entertaining/ gripping books.

This didn't sell at the MS sale so Pakasanelly brought it to the Chelmsford bookcrossers' meet (14/11) where I picked it up. Thanks Pakasanelly - I've read 2 or 3 Iain Banks books so this appeals to me.
It's taken me a while to get to this.
I enjoyed the tale even though the situation is rather 'odd'. That's Iain Banks for you.
A few cargo ships and tankers trapped on a lake on the Panama Canal during a 'coup' onland. A world-famous cellist happens to be travelling on one of the ships. They have their own little community until the 'coup' comes to them.
