Set in the 1100s, this is the life story of Baudolino - apparently the adopted son of Barbarossa, the Holy Roman Emperor. It's been a few years since I read it and - despite the bashing its taken at the hands of some - I did quite enjoy it. It is hard work though : as usual with Eco, however, it's worth it in the end !
