This is a classic Australian tale set just after the war in the streets of Perth in any struggling suburb which is just trying to get by. Two families are forced to come together due to their circumstances and live side-by-side through thick and thin. Each family is thwart with their own sadnesses, their own joys and this ultimately extends out to the wider family - the house on CloudStreet.
The story spans over 20 years and within this period we see the families grow up, grow old and grow together and it is the unspoken observations which sit with me the most. The little nuances that each characters brings to the table, their strengths plus their weaknesses within any family. I enjoyed the book.
