Journal Entry 1 by Stuff-Nonsense from Parksville, British Columbia Canada on Sunday, June 18, 2006
As head of PR for Lonely planet travel guides, Jennifer Cox has explored remote regions, toured exotic terrains and bonded with people the world over. Now she's willing to put as much energy into finding a good relationship as she has usually committed to her job. With the help of her contacts all over the world, Jennifer sets out to date 80 men in 18 countries, looking for her soul mate. What she discovers makes for adventurous reading.

I am half-way through this book, and just cannot stop. I love the combination of exotic travel notes, self-discovery and vicarious adventure dating. I'm thinking this would be a good book for a ring - I'll just finish it first!

This book is on its way to bluefenix211 in Brunei!

In the package, I ask readers (if they're willing) to recommend a date location/ activity in their part of the world. Here on Vancouver Island, I'd say the most beautiful spot to visit is Long Beach (Pacific Rim National Park- see pic). There's so much to do there, including surfing, whale watching, bathing in hot springs and over 20 km of beaches to walk in any weather.

Journal Entry 4 by bluefenix211 on Tuesday, August 8, 2006
Came back home after a week away cause we have a national celebration here in Brunei (that last about a month), and realizing the package containing this book is on the table. Thanks! Will read it asap.

Our Sultan is celebrating his 60th birthday and there's alot to do around here. Cultural shows and food festival (I like to empahasize the word Food! ^_^) not to forget other things.

well, made it halfway through the book and got bored, it became awfully predictable. what a weird and crazy thing to do, good onya Jennifer for going to that extend for finding your soulmate!
unlike Jennifer i really enjoyed the european leg, once she went to the US thats when i started to skip parts here and there and everywhere.
glad it had a happy ending

Journal Entry 8 by LyzzyBee from Birmingham, West Midlands United Kingdom on Monday, October 16, 2006
Arrived today. This becomes Ring No 3 on the pile, however I am going to Bristol on Saturday and I'm sure the 2 x 2 hour journeys will eat up at least one of the books! I promise I'll get it read and passed on in good time anyway.

Journal Entry 9 by LyzzyBee from Birmingham, West Midlands United Kingdom on Tuesday, October 24, 2006
Well I did enjoy this. It was an ideal travelling read - I read the whole thing going Birmingham-Bristol-Birmingham on the coach on Saturday! I thought she paced it well, and didn't get bored - but that's maybe because of the context in which I was reading it.

Stuff-nonsense - you mention in your JE a "package" which includes a request for date suggestions in ones home town. Well, there wasn't anything with the book when it got to me (sorry!) but I would like to suggest a good date location in Birmingham: the Birmingham Nature Centre. There's cute and exciting animals, you can watch the lemurs and be scared by the spiders, and try to spot the elusive red panda. There's old couples, families, cute kids, all sorts there, so great for people watching. Plenty of benches (for bookcrossing) and a jolly cafe that does a nice plate of chips!

I have the next address and will be sending this onwards on Saturday.

Journal Entry 19 by LindyLouMac from Tywyn, Wales United Kingdom on Saturday, February 17, 2007
Arrived today, thanks rennie1811 for mailing it to me and of course to Stuff-Nonsense for starting this ring and letting me join. From the reviews here it looks like this will be a fun read, a travel book with a difference. My suggestion for a date in Italy is a romantic weekend in Roma, one of the most beautiful cities in the world which I am lucky enough to live near at present. I notice from the back cover that Jennifer Cox does actually have a date in Italy, described as 'The Dead Date' I am intrigued!! I have a book ahead of this one, but I am an avid and quick reader so will be passing it on within the time scale mentioned.

Journal Entry 20 by LindyLouMac from Tywyn, Wales United Kingdom on Thursday, February 22, 2007
Not great literature but then I really do not think it was ever the intention of the author for it to be more than what it is, a fun light read! Much more a personal memoir than a travel book though in my opinion. A little strange in parts(Date 21 Dead in Italy)for instance and I also found the Burning Man Festival in Nevada where Jennifer spent some time at the Soul Mate Store rather weird. In fact I think she spent more time here than anywhere else on the trip and along with the coincidence that happened there! Will say no more as do not want to spoil it. Will follow rest of reviews with interest. I wonder if it will actually be made into a film? I noticed in the book notes that Universal Pictures have taken an option!

Well, it certainly looks like this book is also going around the world in 80 (nearly :-)) dates - it has arrived in Germany by now!

Thanks for sending it - will read asap!

Journal Entry 23 by wingkiki66wing from Gauting, Bayern Germany on Saturday, March 31, 2007
Well, finished this book today..I am a bit ambivalent.. I thought (hoped) it would be more fun to read..more strange or hilariuos dates..but it was more a travel book..
Nonetheless it was nice to read and I am happy for her to have found her soul mate...

As a date location/activity here in Bavaria I would suggest either going to the Alps and the castles of our Mad King Ludwig II (Castle Neuschwanstein for example...) or just a day strolling through Munich...

I have already Ri's address so the book will be on its way on Monday!

Happy Travelling!

Journal Entry 25 by Ri from Cincinnati, Ohio USA on Thursday, April 12, 2007
Yea! This book arrived today - just in time to get it read before this baby is to arrive (due in about 3 weeks!). Thanks so much for passing it on to me, kiki66!

Journal Entry 26 by Ri from Cincinnati, Ohio USA on Saturday, April 21, 2007
Wow! I really enjoyed this one! It became more than just reading about her wild adventures traveling and dating. I felt myself really drawn into her inner dialogue about what it means to find a soul mate. I also loved hearing about the various places she traveled. I would have liked to have heard more about this! It made me itch to travel again with my husband (but that is on hold for the immediate future as our baby is due in less than 2 weeks!)

Part travel book, part memoir, part chick lit - overall a great read! I'd love to meet Jennifer someday. (Oh, and Garry too!) ;)

As for a date around here, I'd suggest an overnight camping and white water rafting trip on the New River in West Virginia. Perhaps not first date material, but definitely a way to really get to know someone's strengths and challenges both on a mental and physical level.

I pm'd greystonegirl16 about a week ago and haven't heard back yet. I'll try again, but if I don't hear from her in a couple days, I'll move on down the list.

ETA April 29: I mailed this off to greystonegirl16. Hopefully it will arrive soon!

Woo hoo, got the book!!!!!!!!!! Can't wait to start reading it :-)!

Journal Entry 28 by tidybookshelf from Atlanta, Georgia USA on Tuesday, July 10, 2007
I misunderstood and thought that this book was just a chick lit book . . . imagine my surprise when I realized 2/3 through that it was a true story!

I think Jennifer has amazing courage to do what she did (I know I could never do it), and I was absolutely fascinated to hear all of her different stories. And I was so thrilled at the outcome. I definitely recommend this one!

PMed the next person in line to get her address!

Sadly, this book was lost in the mail - after making it 7/8 of the way around the world. Thanks to all who participated, and to the folk who didn't get a chance to read it, I hope it serendipitously makes its way onto your shelves one day.
