Escaping from Seattle, Judith and Renie agree to manage a vacationing friend's inn on a rustic and isolated island. Their peace is quickly disturbed by a demanding guest who so upsets Renie that she conks him over the head with a china dish. Minutes later, the woozy lout takes a fatal tumble down an inconvenient staircase. Renie is certain she killed him, but Judith begins sorting through the island's present inhabitants looking for the true culprit.
