The Secret Life of Bees

I loved this story about self-empowering women in 1964 South Carolina. Lily, a girl who lost her mother at an early age, and her black nanny flee after a confrontation with three racists turns exceptionally ugly. They find shelter with three sisters who run an apiary and from them learn to find their own inner strength. The characters are so alive and human that you wish this story would never end.

What a wonderful book! It arrived here safely and since I don't work with Miriam (our beekeeper at the history theme park) until Thursday I decided I might as well read it too -LOL, I have so many books yet to read but when I see a great book I just can't keep it closed! It's a very touching story indeed. Lily struggles with her past and the relationships with the women she meets, and then there's the whole civil rights issue of '64, such a short time ago really... Hard to put down!
fungirl503, thanks a million for sending it, it's very much appreciated!

After a bizarre period, when our house was burned down including our library of more then 2 meter off bee books, I received this book from a friend. I apology for reading it so late, but when I started it was impossible to stop. A touching story that keeps on buzzing in your mind for quit a while. Now I'm that far that I can let go the book, it was already way to long with me, I hope that it will give somebody else as much enjoyment as it did to me.
