This book reminded me so much of the Taliban women in Afghanistan, politics and gender. Atwood focuses on life as woman in the Republic of Gilead and how women are dehumanized and become instruments for childbearing. These women are not allowed to read or write and may only work as servants/handmaid's to fulfill the wishes of men!! Very realistic and wonderfully written and believable. I feel for the Taliban women and their oppressive lifestyle as I did for the characters in this book. A must read for every woman!!
Thank you so much salemhouse for sending this to me!! I think I'll purchase a copy and add this to my permanent collection but will pass your copy on!
