This is one of my favorite Victoria Holt books. If you liked DuMaurier's REBECCA, you'll love Holt. Favel Farrington meets Capri, the dashing young heir to the Pendorric estate. She soon to discovers that "someone was planning a very special place for her in the family - in the vault with the other legendary 'brides of Pendorric' who had all died so mysteriously, so tragically, and so young."

Release planned for Wednesday, January 22, 2003 at Mailing to another BookCrosser in Tulsa, Oklahoma USA.

Bassoony, I know you will enjoy this book. I really debated long and hard before putting it up for adoption on BookCrossing. It's my second favorite Victoria Holt book (only second to The Captive). Never judge a book by it's cover. It can't help that it's been well-loved!

I must admit I had a bit of a hard time getting into this one, and I had to get past some technical details. However, I thought the story was strong. It really kept me guessing until the very end, despite loads of very obvious forshadowing.
It had all the elements of a Gothic novel, big house, mysterious heirs, ghost stories, graveyards, nobody close at hand when the going gets prickly, even a little bit of mental insanity for good measure. I really enjoyed reading this once I got into it. And once the plot took a few turns for the unexpected, I had to stick around for the end. Let me know if you would like to read this one...it's great for a rainy day.

I've given this to my sister's fiance's stepmother. We were having a meet the family dinner, and she said she was running out of stuff to read. "Sounds like a potential bookcrosser to me" I thought. She doesn't have a computer, but she said it might be worth it to sign up at the library, so I gave her a stack of books including this one. She might never join, but hey, then it's a wild release.
