A true classic but one of the most tedious books I've ever read! Melville never used one word if a chapter could do the same and sections have such obscure phraseology you may need to read them several times to make any sense of them.
The story still works but could have been far better written in 200 pages than 550. Having said that, the experts tell me this is wondeful stuff, me, I'm not convinced.
