The Eyre Affair

'The Eyre Affair', by the exceptionally talented Jasper Fforde, is a humourous novel set in 1980's Britain (though mostly Swindon) about a literary detective, Thursday Next, and her attempts to rescue a kidnapped Jane Eyre (of Bronte's book of the same name) from the devilish Acheron Hades whilst also trying to marry the man she loves, find out who actually wrote Shakespeare's plays and put an end to the Crimean War.
Fforde's wit, skill and vast imagination make The Eyre Affair a greatly pleasurable read from beginning to end. I wanted to read this book again.....but thought it was only fair to allow others to have this privilege. Happy reading!
