It sort of read like "chick lit for the Indian girl" or something like that. There was a lot of discomfort in the East/West divide and the protagonist seemed very confused. I didn't particularly like the way that a large chunk of the book was written restrospectively. I wanted to scream at the book several times in the hope that it would get on with the here and now. Interesting though the past was, it had started out with something and then abandoned it to give us several chapters of history. All of which could have been summed up far more succinctly. Having said that, it was quite a refreshing read. I've only really started to read chick lit since using bookcrossing but have found it entertaining and this was sweet and it was interesting to read about another culture in such a light environment. I sympathised with Anju but found the ending too quick, convenient and quite unsatisfying.
I'll post this off to Katayoun later on in the week when I can get to the post office.
