Journal Entry 5 by Herrundmeyer from Heilbronn, Baden-Württemberg Germany on Wednesday, February 26, 2003
Received it in today's mail. Will read it ASAP and send it on. (Yahooo, my first book ring book!)
By the way, the picture shows the crest of my home town, Buer, before it merged with Gelsenkirchen in the late 20s. A lot of people here still emphasise they live in Buer, not Gelsenkirchen (although there are not many of them who remember an independent Buer).

Released on Thursday, February 27, 2003 at mailed to a fellow bookcrosser in Gelsenkirchen, Nordrhein-Westfalen Germany.

A hilarious book! A real page-turner, and you won't even notice, because the pages are not numbered ;-)

I have stuck a German stamp inside the front cover (€0.01 only), so the book will show where it has been. The release picture shows the Buer skyline.

Sending this one on to Realbookworm in Canada.

Just received this today. It was a nice surprise when I got home from work because I had forgotten all about this bookring! I need some light reading right now so I'll go through it as quickly as I can and send it on to SeaBass.

Herrundmeyer, thanks for the tip about the stamp. I might have missed seeing it if you hadn't mentioned it. :)

Journal Entry 8 by RealBookWorm on Tuesday, April 15, 2003
hmmm, well, I hate to be the only wet blanket so far but I didn't find it all that funny. Some of the letters are funny but some are too far-fetched for me to find amusing.

I'm sure the people working for those businesses he wrote to who had to answer his mail would like to have said way more than they did! I think it would be difficult to write those polite, respectful answers to an obvious lunatic.

I'll be sending this book on its way to Seabass as soon as he sends me his address.

Journal Entry 9 by RealBookWorm on Wednesday, April 30, 2003
I sent this book on to seabass a couple of weeks ago (sorry I don't remember the date I sent it) but I forgot to journal that I did. Someone on the bookring wrote and asked me if I'd sent it. I apologize for not journalling before today!

This book was pretty much along the same lines as the first. I didn't enjoy it quite as much as the first, but I'm not sure if it was because it wasn't as funny, or it just didn't catch me off guard like the first one did.

Journal Entry 11 by KatRVT from Newmarket, Ontario Canada on Monday, June 2, 2003
My husband got this from a book ring. Like the 1st one better, but this one is worth reading too.

Journal Entry 12 by the1stof8 from Renton, Washington USA on Tuesday, July 15, 2003
This book was waiting for me after returning from vacation this past weekend. I have already read it and while I found some of the letters rather "silly", I was continually amused by the actual responses from the recipients. I can only imagine what went on behind the scenes at the various corporations after reading Mr. Nancy's letter and then trying to actually write a response to him. :-)

Mail catch:

"More Letters from a Nut" arrived in today's mail; many thanks! It looks nicely silly, and - more importantly - can be read in small increments so perhaps it won't make my other in-process books jealous {grin}. I'll pass it along promptly, though I may make some notes about this letter I've been meaning to write to a very obnoxious mortgage company...

Journal Entry 14 by wingGoryDetailswing from Nashua, New Hampshire USA on Friday, July 25, 2003
This turned out to be more fun than I expected; I'd been wondering if I'd find it sad that so many hapless secretaries had to spend time dealing with this lunatic's letters, but - while there were some who just seemed beleaguered - there were quite a few recipients who caught the spirit of the thing perfectly.

One of the better ones was from the city of Las Cruces, NM; in response to a blatantly frivolous Nancy letter about opening over a thousand restaurants in the same town and hiring multiple thousands of people to wear mosquito costumes as advertising, the Las Cruces business-permit folk drafted a wonderful 4-page reply that appears to be in deadly earnest - until you pick up on the details, and the closing "We definitely believe your proposal sucks" {grin}. Another good one was from Lewisville TX; Nancy claimed he had a deed giving him ownership of the city and wanted to know who to talk to about it, and the response was a very cheery letter congratulating him - and asking how he did it, so that the letter-writer could obtain a city in Texas for herself. And Broken Arrow, OK's building inspector wrote a hilarious reply to Nancy's query about opening an unusual assortment of theme restaurants. [It seems that the city officials in general pick up on these things more quickly than some of the other businesses... or maybe it was just that Nancy's letters to them were so obviously bogus.]

There were quite a few letters that had me laughing out loud in themselves, though the replies weren't especially interesting - the one where he's claiming to have awakened from a coma to find that his wife left him for another guy in a coma, or the letter to Sears that ends "Hey, whatever happened to Roebuck? You never hear about him anymore".

In the "is this funny or isn't it" category: well, there was a series of letters to various prisons in which Nancy offered to come and perform a variety of bizarre-sounding acts. Most offers were refused, with varying degrees of civility - but one was accepted. No word on followup, if any... One wonders what that person felt like when this book came out.

There were also several letters to various hotels or other businesses in Turkey, most of which were responded to in a polite-but-baffled tone; I was getting annoyed with Nancy for picking on the Turks, and then I came across the letter about camel wrestling; for that one, the Turks gave as good as they got!

Glad I got a chance to read this. I'll be putting it in the mail to annulla tomorrow.

Journal Entry 15 by annulla from Brooklyn, New York USA on Wednesday, August 20, 2003
Oh, I am soooooo bad! I requested this book, I read it, and forgot all about journaling it until GoryDetails asked me whether I'd ever received it. I'll never complain about someone *not* journaling one of my books again!

My little review: As someone who has, in a professional capacity, occasionally been the recipient of rather-deranged sounding letters from consumers - to which I must respond in a respectful (if not sincere) manner - my sympathies were with those who were forced to craft the answer's to Ted Nancy's letters. If you ever dug through a pile of *real* angry or puzzled consumer letters, you'd realize that Nancy's missives aren't as far out or unusual as you might think. As my mom always said, "Every nut in the world can pick up a pen." But, to the point of whether or not this book is hilarious - in my opinion, no. Some sections are somewhat amusing, but I wouldn't really recommend it. However, I will pass it along.

Now, Nancy is going on the next stage of his journey ...

I love this guy. I sat down to read a few letters and ended up halfway through the book, like Betsy-STL. I thought it was silly and hilarious. I especially love the responses where the writer obviously got the joke but tried to write a serious come-back anyway. Very entertaining. I'm passing this on to the next person in the ring.

Journal Entry 18 by greedyreader from Oakland, New Jersey USA on Thursday, September 11, 2003
Thank you for sending this to me CoasterKim -- as well as those who came before. I opened the package and sat down outside on my Adironack Chair and had a few good laughs. The husband says he read the first book and wants to get his claws into this one tonight. We shall see ... ;)

Journal Entry 19 by greedyreader from Oakland, New Jersey USA on Tuesday, September 16, 2003
What a quick and funny read! My husband and I spent the last 3 nights sharing the letters back and forth. Who doesn't like to laugh out loud?!

(I emailed the next in line, and am waiting for her address for the last few days.)

Got this in the mail-part of Italiana's book ring. (must admit, it came a couple of weeks ago, but the I put it aside b/c of the holidays) New Year so I plan on reading more.

Journal Entry 22 by linnefaulk from Wesley Chapel, Florida USA on Friday, March 5, 2004
I started reading this as soon as I got it. Then put it aside for the holidays. I didn't think to pick it up again since it didn't make me laugh as much as I thought it would. It's OK.

Shellyann alread got a copy so I'm sending it to RED via media mail on Monday.

At long last, it's here.

Journal Entry 24 by Red from Arlington Heights, Illinois USA on Sunday, March 21, 2004
Cute premise. Was the first book better? I was disappointed at the repetitiveness of some of his "bits." I expected them to have more finesse than they do and was surprised how forced some of them seemed. I guess he needed to pad the book to make it long enough. I skimmed this in half an hour or so. Truthfully, received much better nutty letters from *amateurs* when I worked in publishing. Book will be in mail to PHC by 3/24.

Journal Entry 25 by PHC from Richmond, Virginia USA on Friday, June 25, 2004
Cute book! Thanks for sharing it. PM'ing Aisho now.

So sorry I've had this so long! I've really enjoyed reading it! =) Laughed until I cried a few times, but overall, found the first book better (as is usually the case!) I'm simply amazed that Ted L. Nancy has the creativity to come up with 2 books full of hilarous letters! =)

The book is here! Thanks Betsy, I've been waiting to read this book for awhile!

Journal Entry 30 by Apolonia from Lynn, Massachusetts USA on Saturday, April 15, 2006
Thanks again Betsy, I finally finished this one. Once I started it was a quick fun read. I liked the fact in this volume vs. the first one more of the businesses seemed to get that this was a joke and gave it right back to him. I was going to give this book to a non-BC friend, but seeing that it has been journaled so much I hate to take it out of the BC group. I am going to bring it with me to the 2006 Bookcrossing convention in Toronto. I will either trade or give it to another BCer.

This book was passed on at the 2006 bookcrossing convention in Toronto. It went home with bookcrosser Ixion.

Journal Entry 33 by Ixion at Warwick, Rhode Island USA on Friday, October 22, 2010
Oooops. Apparently this book never got journaled after the convention. I am adding it to my donate, RABCK and wild release pile as I am moving and can't take all the books with me.
