WILD RELEASE NOTES:
Received in the mail today. Thank you for seeing this book on my wish list and offering it to me. I absolutely loved Krakauer's "Into Thin Air," so I'm looking forward to reading this.
Sorry for the duplicate post. I forgot to log in before making a journal entry on this book, so it shows as an anonymous find, but it's really me - - Pinklady60.
In this book, the author explores the facts leading up to the death of Chris McCandless, a young college graduate from a well-to-do family who hitchhiked to Alaska and walked into the wilderness to live on his own.
I was looking forward to reading this book, as I absolutely loved Krakauer's "Into Thin Air," but it did not live up to my expectations. Chris's death was a tragic waste of a young life (and I use the word tragic in the very loosest sense because Chris was doing what he wanted to do), but the story was not gripping and the facts leading up to his death were minimal. I never felt like I knew Chris, but then again, he really didn't want people to know him.

This book was a surprise gift from pinklady60. Thank you so much! Thanks, too, for the beautiful San Diego postcard!
Yesterday, head firmly planted up where the sun don't shine, I stopped at the mailbox as I was backing out of the driveway. Tons of mail which I sorted on the roof of my car. Sat in the car to read a long letter. Guess who drove off forgetting the precious package on the roof. Yikes!
A happy ending to the story. Two miles from home a motorist picked it up off the road and returned it to me this morning, safe and sound.
Was it my lucky day, or what?!

After Into Thin Air this book was a bit of a disappointment; trying to pad what was probably a good magazine article and turn it into a book was a mistake, I believe. All the same, I very much enjoy Krakauer's writing style and intend to read everything he's penned.
I feel little sympathy for Chris McCandless, a foolishly idealistic self-absorbed young man who, ill-prepared to face the challenges of wild Alaska, bit off a lot more than he could chew. His lack of common sense blew my mind.
Thanks very much, pinklady60!

Mailing today to MaryZee. To be released at the Carroll County Book Fair.
This arrived in a box full of books the other day for the book fair. Thanks KansasKiwi!
I read this book a couple of years ago, after enjoying Krakauer's Into Thin Air. The young man in this story was definitely ill-prepared for the dangers he faced. But it was an interesting book to experience.
And I see this book has taken some interesting trips, based on journal #7. (I think it must be a lucky book, KansasKiwi ;)
