Oh what a wonderful read this was. I read Pigs in Heaven a few years ago, not realising that there was a book which preceded it. I have kind of put off reading this, as I was afraid it would be spoiled by having read Pigs In Heaven. I have no idea why I was worried. This is a beautifully written book, it answered some questions I had left over from reading Pigs in Heaven. Reading Barbara Kingsolver is always a real joy, when opening a Kingsolver book the pleasure I get from her writting is instantaneous. I always love the characters in a Barbara Kingsolver novel, and she brings places I have never seen to life.

Thank you very much, Heaven-Ali, for bringing this to the London convention for me. It was lovely to meet you!
I probably enjoyed the start of this book the most, it was promisingly quirky. The book remained enjoyable but became more conventional as it progressed. The writing is very engaging and characterisation was very good (- other than Taylor Greer who seemed to lose some of her drive IMO).
An amusing book and impressive as a first novel.

Picked up at the Edinburgh meet-up. Nice to meet you. I already have 'Pigs in Heaven' on my to be read pile so judging from the comments this should fit in well just before it.
It took me a little while to get into this book and unlike Triggerfish I thought it improved as it went on and the main character matured and developed. I will probably read 'Pigs in Heaven' once I have read a couple of other books.
Sent to shimi in Norway as a RABCK.
What a lovely way to start a weekend after a stressful week at work... surprise books in the mail! Thank you so much, Ardachy!
I was very impressed with The poisonwood bible, and I'm really looking forward to read something else by Barbara Kingsolver!

I read this a while ago already, but forgot to journal. Anyway, I enjoyed this, but more in the beginning than later on in the book... and not quite as much as Pigs in heaven, which I read straight afterwards. I really like the style of Kingsolver's books, though, and it's definitely worth a read.
