Synopsis:
Ram Mohammed Thomas is a waiter who gets the chance to appear on "Who Will Win a Billion?" on Indian TV. Even though the orphan has never been to school, an amazing sequence of coincidences allows him to answer the 12 questions correctly and win the billion rupees. The TV show thinks he must be cheating, especially since the producers hadn't planned on someone winning the billion before advertising revenue brought in more than the billion needed for the prize. So he is arrested. He tells his life story to his attorney, and through the questions the listener learns about his life and his real reason for going on the show.

Extremly interesting read. Perhaps a little unbeliveable, but I enjoyed the insight on the many facets of Indian life.

It took me a little bit to get 'into' this book, but by the end I was hooked. The concept and how the chapters were laid out was original and while at first it took some getting used to, I found I quite enjoyed it. Thanks for including me on this bookring!

I'll be sending it off to silvermoonwyrm as soon as I have her address.

It jumped around in time a bit which was disconcerting, but I loved the twists at the end, and it was a nice change from the scifi/fantasy I usually read.

On it's way to angelbird72

Journal Entry 11 by angelbird72 from Newcastle, New South Wales Australia on Tuesday, December 12, 2006
I just recieved this book in the post yesturday, I had completely forgotten I had put my name down for it.

I can't wait to get into this :)

Journal Entry 12 by angelbird72 from Newcastle, New South Wales Australia on Sunday, December 17, 2006
I really liked this book. I also liked the ending. I find a lot of the time I don't like the ending of books, wishing they would go on forever, or I find myself disappointed at how the author tied it up. I was not disappointed with this book however.

I really needed for this story to have a happy ending.

I also really liked the way the book was written so that details slowly filled in until only at the last moment you saw everything. I also liked the way the timeline skipped around, it really worked for this book, I imagine it would be very easy for a story to be ruined by being written in this structure, but it really worked for this author.

The only thing I didn't like so much was the way everything seemed to fit together so perfectly. I know that it couldn't really have worked any other way, and that I'm probably just making half of the little bits up that annoyed me, or projecting from other bits and pieces that happened to me while I was reading the book, but those niggling little bits brought this book down to about a 9.27 out of 10.

Received on Tuesday (Feb 6); thanks!

I am really looking forward to reading this one; it must have had some of Angelbird72's residual enthusiasm lingering on it!!! :) It's in my TBR but won't stay there long.

Thanks for the loan.

I truly enjoyed this one. Easy to read, and I found myself genuinely interested in the central characters. I didn't care at all that it would never happen - I really enjoy the possibility that it just might!

So sorry to have this book for so long; I am PMing Pixette tonight and hope to have the book moving come Monday... Thanks for the loan, michyj.

Just arrived in the mail. Thank you

Journal Entry 17 by wingPixettewing from Sydney CBD, New South Wales Australia on Friday, May 25, 2007
I really enjoyed this book.

The structure of each chapter concentrating on an episode in our hero's life providing him the answer to a difficult quiz question was innovative and engaging.

The sadness of the lives of the critically poor of India was painful - occasionally bringing me to tears. I haven't felt such sadness of deprivation since reading Angela's Ashes.

Indeed I wouldn't have picked up this book on my own. But I'm glad to have participated in this bookring. It has introduced me to a new author.

What a fantastic book and a unique way to tell a story. I must admit that I was a bit bored with one of the chapters where it went on and on about cricket so I skimmed quite a bit there. I also liked the ending.

HO HO HO Happy Holidays!

Journal Entry 24 by luckydipper from Coolangatta, Queensland Australia on Friday, December 21, 2007
3 books, a father of michyj designed but handmade by michyj bag, the cutest mug ever, chocolates? Santa you have been ultra generous to me this Christmas, Does this mean I have been good this year, or you just didn't hear about all the naughty things I did?

unfortunately the luckydipperJNR's ate all my chocolates, but I managed to keep everyone away from everything else.

A HUGE thank you, I was so wanting to open this parcel when it arrived, but it was confiscated by Mr Luckydipper, then I went on holidays but now I am back and it was calling me 'luckydipper you want to open me don't you' and well I couln't help myself, what is a few days between BC friends?

Today is my designated BC christmas day so that I can say thank you's to everyone generous enough to send me a gift, or even lovely enough to stop and think of me at this special time, I am assuming I will be too 'family' busy over Christmas and boxing day to log on and say my thanks.

Have a merry christmas, a fun packed New Year and a healthy, happy and Bookcrossing full 2008.
