Interesting-looking mystery set around the turn of the century. I picked this up months ago through the Burger King Book & Magazine Exchange in Havelock, NC, and will probably read and return there. (I didn't figure a BCID would hurt it any...)

I started reading it then, but didn't get very far. Looks good, though.

This was a really fun read. Sometimes I thought the character was a little more knowing than her position in her era would have allowed (even with some education); others, I thought her lack of understanding was unlikely, given how savvy she was a minute ago. However, I liked the character and story well enough to accept her reasons and willingly suspend my disbelief. Even if the explanations seemed thin, there were, in fact, explanations.

Though I only have an amateur historical knowledge of the era, I thought the research was very well and thoroughly done. I was enchanted by turn-of-the-century New York and felt as though I'd learned a little by the time I was done.

I enjoyed the book, and although I probably won't add it to my wishlist, I'll definitely be on the lookout for a copy of the other(s) in the series. This one I'll either return to the shelf I picked it up from or find another way to pass along.
