Have just finished this very quickly, an unusual love story, with lots of interesting twists, the fact that she falls in love with a monk after being married for 20 years adds a touch of intrigue! He must be yummy. Found myself spotting a lot of similarities with "The secret Life of Bees" the religion and the rituals as well as the african influences. A few disturbing bits too that I would rather not imagine.

Handing this one to Inver, hope you enjoy.
Finished it and what a great read it was too. Enjoyed it as much as Secret Life of Bees. Had a vision of a hunky monk in my head while reading it I have to say!! Not quite sure who it might be in a film though (Colin Firth sprung to mind at one point!) which I think could be transferred to no problem. Would love to see the actual 'Mermaid Chair'. Thanks for allowing me to read it. I think one you could read again and still enjoy.
Book will be returned to your bookshelf soon sis.
Look forward to some more of hers, when the time comes.
