A Letter of Mary: A Mary Russell Novel
4 journalers for this copy...
Picked this up at the Book Thing, for BC. (signed copy)
This is my 68th registration for the BC Race to 3 Million challenge.
From the cover -
"It appears to be a letter," I said slowly,
"from a woman named Mariam, or Mary.
She refers to herself as an apostolos of
Joshua, or Jesus, the Anointed One,
and it is addressed to her sister -
in the town of Magdala."
August 1923. All is quiet in the Holmes household in Sussex as Mary Russell works on academic research while Sherlock Holmes conducts malodorous chemistry experiments. But the peace quickly disappears as out of the past comes Dorothy Ruskin, an amateur archeologist from the Holy Land, who brings the couple a lovely inlaid box with a tattered roll of stained papyrus inside.
The evening following their meeting, Miss Ruskin dies in a traffic accident that Holmes and Mary soon prove was murder. But what was the motivation? Was it the little inlaid box holding the manuscript? Or the woman's involvement in the volatile politics of the Holy Land? Or could it have been the scroll itself, a deeply troubling letter that seems to have been written by Mary Magdalene and that contains a biblical bombshell...

Sadly, MaryZee passed suddenly in September 2012. MaryZee's daughter is now ready to rehome her mom's books and I was willing to collect and redistribute them to keep her literary legacy alive.
In memory of MaryZee, I hope this book will continue to travel and find many eager readers. Thank you, 6of8, for bringing me this and other books Of MaryZee's to share.

I have read this book and several others in the Mary Russell/Sherlock Holmes series by Laurie R. King. Saw it today on the BookCrossing Table hosted by the BCinDC members. I journaled it but have left it on the BC book table for someone else to enjoy. The original registration of this book was by BC'er "MaryZee". This book is being journaled in her memory.
