Synopsis
The triffids are a monstrous species of stinging plant; they walk, they talk, they dominate the world. The narrator of this novel wakes up in hospital to find that, by missing the end of the world, he has survived to witness a new world. But the new world that awaits him is fantastic and horrific.

On the face of it this book takes some of the ideas of Well's "war of the worlds" and folows them through. However, in some ways it is more bound to its time in history than Well's earlier book. The Cold War is at the root of the disaster that overtakes mankind rather than "aliens". The focus is on the choices of the survivors in the medium and long term.
It asks some interesting questions and works as a gripping thriller too. Successfully managing to avoid some of the more predictable cliches of the genre.
