The story of a 1930s milltown in the south and the characters that live there, together, yet so seperate. This book holds special interest to me since I work as an archaeologist and am cataloging a 1920-30s milltown from TN right now. I didn't realize I was having this connection until I had started the book, and it's made the tedious work of washing and preserving otherwise fairly mundane artificats more interesting (1,000s of pounds of shattered glass and unidentifiable corroded metal amoung the few interesting things such as "merry widows" condom tins, and old toothpaste containers that read 'cures bleeding gums'.)

McCullers really captures the lonliness of the people in this town and the mild tensions that keep them apart.

Caught from Paperbackswap.com and plan to send it back out through same so someone else can enjoy it.

Very interesting, even though their is no set story really. Just a wash of characters searching for something, and desperately trying to connect. I enjoyed the writing style and the unique characters.
