"Iris Murdoch's first novel is set in a part of London where struggling writers rub shoulders with successful bookies, and film starlets with frantic philosophers. Its hero, Jake Donaghue, is a drifting, clever, likeable young man, who makes a living out of translation work and sponging off his friends. A meeting with Anna, an old flame, leads him into a series of fantastic adventures."

RELEASE NOTES:

Never been before, so not sure where I shall leave it.

Left on a bench in the gallery. However, on the way out, I noticed the attendant had it by his side (either he found it or it had been given to him as lost property). He didn't look like a Murdoch fan, so I don't know what will happen to it. Was lairy about challenging him, and daughter would have died *on the spot* if I had done so anyway. We shall see, it was in lovely condition, too.
