The Kite Runner
4 journalers for this copy...
Fantastic Book! I couldn't put it down!
Mailed out 3/21 to Morsecode as a belated Christmas gift. I told you I wouldn't forget...lol
Hubby and I saw the author on Book TV this fall and I was really hoping that he'd get me this book for Christmas, but that didn't happen. (men!)
Lucky me, I did get it as a Christmas present after all :)
Thanks so much, booklady2005!

I am so happy to report that this book is scheduled for discussion at my next book club meeting. I finally have an excuse to bump it up the TBR queue.
In any case, I'm loaning the book to my coworker so she can read it (hopefully she'll journal it!). I'll read it when she gives it back because I like to read the books right before the meetings so that they're fresh in my mind.

I read the first half of the book yesterday and I have to admit that had a hard time falling asleep last night. The images and feeling invoked by the book haunted me.
Having just finished the book I'm a bit at a loss for words. For now, I think the best I can do is quote from a much more eloquent reviewer from The Washington Post Book World:
"A powerful book... no frills, no nonsense, just hard, spare prose... an intimate account of family and friendship, betrayal and salvation that requires no atlas or translation to engage and enlighten us. Parts of The Kite Runner are raw and excruciating to read, yet the book in its entirety is lovingly written."
We'll be discussing the book at my book club meeting tomorrow.

I'm mailing this book off in zzz's m-bag on Saturday. I remember discussing it with him when I read it and since he hadn't read it yet I told him I'd send him this copy.
My M-Bag #2 has arrived!!!
Morsie thank you so much for make it possible and for Kite Runner!!!
I can't believe that you remembered to include this book as well!
Hugs!

Journal Entry 8 by zzz from Rakovica / Раковица, City of Belgrade Serbia on Saturday, February 9, 2008
I've read this book back in August but since I wasn't near my PC I completely forgot to write journal entry. I guess now it's too late but I know I like it a lot and it was absolutely un-put-downable. I finished book sometime before the dawn and I remember it was so hard to restrain myself to call my friends I didn't hear for ages! It would be hard to expect they would understand that I'm waking them at 5am because of book I've just read!
Now this lovely novel continues its journey ... in Holland :)

Journal Entry 9 by CrazyDutchwoman from Heemstede, Noord-Holland Netherlands on Friday, February 15, 2008
You forgot to write a journal entry!!! whahahaha( whistle smiley and then imagine a LMAO one ;) )
Really happy with this book. Rowena is the one that told me to read this and I really like that the roles are reverses now. It used to be that I was the one recommending books, but her taste has changed. (It used to be mostly chick lit stuff) She has recommended me Dutch literature last year and made me read Dutch books which were really good.
I have ordered A Thousand Splendid Suns by this same author and it is so much more fun buying a book that you know your daughter also wants to read badly.
Thanks booklady, morsie, zzz .
Milan I hope to see you in the flesh in April (drool smiley) and we can share some other books and visit the Van Gogh Museum?
