From amazon.com:
This book is amazing. Really, really amazing.
I'm a greater lover of the fantasy genre and have read a great many books over my time. I've read better stories I'm sure, and better worlds with more imaginative creatures and characters etc.
But this book is now one of my most treasured in my small library. It is beautifully written. And by that I don't mean the author spends her time drawling on about fair forests and beautiful scenery. It is beautifully written because of how it draws you in, making you fall in love with some of the characters, despise others, and respect the rest. They have a depth which has been conveyed fantastically, making each character come alive as all fiction characters should, and not remain simply words on a page.
The words 'I couldn't put it down' are thrown about quite a bit, and I've no doubt they are often true. But this book had me spending my early mornings at work in a tired daze because I just couldn't stop reading. Each chapter leaves you desperate to know what the next one will bring, which can often be frustrating when you've promised yourself 'just one more'.
I won't describe the story, but I would seriously recommend reading this book, like I have never recommended before! Robin Hobb has truly catapulted herself to an expert in the genre, and in fiction in general, and I will be looking forward to devouring all her other work
Outstanding.
