Per the back cover ... Jack Tagger is a frustrated journalist. His outspoken views have relegated him to the obituary page, with his byline never again to disgrace the front page. But Jack has stumbled across a whale of a story that might just resurrect his career.
4 May 2006: Received in the mail from j4neyo in the UK. Thanks so much!
10 June 2006: Basket Case ranked as my favorite so far of the Hiaasen books I've read. All have wild, vivid characterizations and improbable plots, but I found these to be entirely believable and quite funny.
The storyline begins with the "accidental" drowning death of a rock musician who has fallen out of popularity. Was it really an accident? The hero/narrator of the story is a journalist who gets the assignment to write an obituary on the musician, and gets involved in a full-scale (and dangerous) murder investigation.
Book will be released at the June 13 meeting of the TriValley Book Crossers in Dublin, California.

I thought it was great because it tells about what it is like to work for a newspaper. Who knew that working the obits is not the greatest of job, nor thought about what it is like to work for the paper doing that type of writing. Great job in writing this book and keeping me interested throughout. Will be released at the book club meeting in Dublin in September.
This book arrived as a surprise in the mail. (Thanks, I)! After reading the reviews (including two "10" ratings), I'm looking forward to reading it. :)
Picked up at tonight's meeting.
Basket Case has the humor of Hoot though clearly written for an older audience. It's the fun sort of read that I was hoping to have with Stormy Weather. I liked the few good natured jabs at Jimmy Buffett too.
