I picked up The Tenth Circle at Border's today. Gotta love those 40% off coupons. I'm planning to start it in the next day or two as soon as I finish the book I'm currently reading. I intend to offer it as a book ring as soon as I finish it.

The Tenth Cirlce just hit bookstore shelves this week! Hopefully it will be a popular book ring.

If you're interested in joining the ring, here are the details:
This book is hard cover, so I will be limiting the ring to the US. I will also be limiting the ring to a managable number...probably around 10 or 12. After I've determined the shipping order, I will send the book along to it's first stop. Please be sure to journal it when you receive it, after you've finished it, and once you've shipped it out again. And please don't keep the book any longer than one month. Enjoy!!

Book Description:
Trixie Stone is fourteen years old and in love for the first time. She's also the light of her father's life -- a straight-A student; a freshman in high school who is pretty and popular; a girl who's always looked up to Daniel Stone as a hero. Until, that is, her world is turned upside down with a single act of violence. . . and suddenly everything Trixie has believed about her family -- and herself -- seems to be a lie.

For fifteen years, Daniel Stone has been an even-tempered, mild-mannered man: a stay-at-home dad to Trixie and a husband who has put his own career as a comic book artist behind that of his wife, Laura, who teaches Dante's Inferno at a local college. But years ago, he was completely different: growing up as the only white boy in an Eskimo village, he was teased mercilessly for the color of his skin. He learned to fight back: stealing, drinking, robbing, and cheating his way out of the Alaskan bush. To become part of a family, he reinvented himself, channeling his rage onto the page and burying his past completely. . . until now. Could the young boy who once made Trixie's face fill with light when he came to the door have been the one to end her childhood forever? She says that he is, and that is all it takes to make Daniel, a man with a history he has hidden even from his family, venture to hell and back in order to protect his daughter.

The Tenth Circle looks at that delicate moment when a child learns that her parents don't know all of the answers and when being a good parent means letting go of your child. It asks whether you can reinvent yourself in the course of a lifetime or if your mistakes are carried forever -- if life is, as in any good comic book, a struggle to control good and evil, or if good and evil control you.

Wow. I really enjoyed this book. Of the three Jodi Picoult books I've read so far, The Tenth Circle is my favorite. I thought it was a real page-turner even though I saw the ending coming. The puzzle at the end of the book was intriguing and it kept me flipping through the book until I solved it. This will be going out as a book ring this week. I hope others enjoy it as much as I did and I'm anxious to hear what they think.

Book is here! Perfect timing - I just finished 2 books yesterday and am ready to start a new one tonight.

Jodi Picoult was at our local bookstore on Friday night. Unfortunately, I could not go because for once I got a babysitter for my kids, so went out with Mr. OneMorePage instead. I have some good friends who went and can't wait to hear all about it. Thanks for the book!

Edited later: this is the report I got from my girlfriend who went to see Jodi Picoult:

"She was phenomenal. I took some notes to share with the group next month. Overall she is brilliant (masters from Harvard), witty, articulate, funny and most importantly- down to earth! Her first priority is her hubby and kids. She sold the rights to My Sister’s Keeper and they have informed her that they are changing the ending (once you sell the rights of your book they can change whatever they want she said) The crowd went “OOOOOOOOOO” I on the other hand was smiling to myself as you know I did not like that book’s ending."

Like OneMorePage, I found this subject matter difficult to read. I stuck it out, and ultimately liked the book, although I was a little shocked by the ending. It also ended a little too ambiguously for me, being a person who still wants to know what happened to Tom Hanks' character at the end of the movie Cast Away. I guess I like my ends a little more tied up neatly. I think I preferred My Sister's Keeper to this one.

On its way to DietCokeMama, as VZfamily asked to be skipped.

As much as I love Jodi Picoult I just couldn't get through this book. What I 've read is well written it just makes me feel uncomfortable to read it, if that makes sense. I was going to try to get through it, but I'm giving up.
I'll have it in the mail to Ilios by Monday.

Thanks KimberleeV for including me in this ring.

I just got this book! Thank you so much for sharing. I am expecting great things from this author. I have read Plain Truth and My Sister's Keeper and I really enjoyed both. I am finishing up another ring, so I'll start this book in a couple of days.

Journal Entry 19 by Ilios from Tampa, Florida USA on Sunday, August 6, 2006
I finished this book last night. This is another good Picoult, and another controversial topic. Again, the author is very successful at showing that there is no black and white situation and that the victims can easily become perpetrators when the situation changes. I can understand why some readers felt too uncomfortable to finish this book. It is not an easy read.

My only complaint about this book is that the author did not go more into Annette Stone's story. When Laura finds her grave, I was expecting that we would learn more about her and Daniel's childhood, but this story line was abandoned.

The artwork was very interesting and I had fun finding all the letters. I will check the website shortly.

Thanks for sharing!

PS: loved the label!

I just now got the chance to make a journal entry on this book. It has arrived in Tecumseh, Oklahoma!

I have been incredibly busy this past week and I have had this book for at least a few days. I have one bookring book that I am about half finished with and then I will get the chance to start this one.

I am looking forward to yet another Jodi Picoult novel that is full of thought provoking reading.

Journal Entry 21 by crrcookie from Tecumseh, Oklahoma USA on Saturday, October 7, 2006
Well, I myself almost gave up on this one but since I can't count it in the Keep Moving Challenge unless I finish reading it I stuck it out.

By about page 100 or so I was feeling like the book just wasn't for me at all. I am not into comic books or graphic novels and therefore could not relate to the cartoons or Daniel the one that writes them.

But I trodded along through the book and things started to get interesting and before long I was reading because I had to know what was going to happen with Trixie in the end.

I also felt that Laura's character and one of the main themes of the book was hard to relate to since I am not at all familiar with Dante's work. That was a main story line that I was just kinda lost on. I also thought that Laura's character was weak both in personality and development by the author.

Trixie's story was what kept me reading. I just wanted to know what was going to happen to this poor troubled teen and all the problems that she is having. I think that the book would have been really good if it focused more on Trixie and left her parent's side stories out all together. It also would have cut down considerably on the size of the book and might not have felt like I had to wade through so much.

All in all this is an OK book. I can't say that I would highly recommend it but it is definately not bad. I too would have liked a little less ambiguous ending as it seems that several of the Jodi Picoult books have.
