"'I could half hear, half feel, a hissing tremor as the aircraft gouged through the ice. Then came another convulsion and above the gale the sudden sharp sound of the crash, the grinding tearing scream of crushed metal. Then, abruptly, a deep and ominous silence when the sound of the wind in the darkness was no sound at all.'"
I've not read any of this author's books, and am not tempted by this one - starting two consecutive sentences with 'Then' is enough to put me off, even if Mt Toobie wasn't quite so big!

I found the book on the bench in St James park. I'm almost finished reading it - and have loved it! A great escape on the commute into London! A true adventure story - in which the hours go by in an extended '24' type manner!
