Picked up this beautiful book to donate for a door prize at the 2006 BC North American convention in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. Of course, I had to read it first ;)

This is my third registration for the BC race to 3 million registered.

To the winner of this beautiful book:
You may do what you like with this book. If you would like to keep it in your permanent collection, please do. If you would like to share it, again please do. I only registered this book since I'd like to see it on my shelf, and after all, this is BookCrossing. But it's up to you to decide what to do with this book. After all, you won it.

I've enjoyed Charles Wysocki's paintings ever since I discovered them. My favorite of course, is Frederick the Literate, whom I have as wallpaper on my pc.

From the cover -
Of all domestic animals, the cat is the most expressive. His face is capable of showing a wide range of expressions. His tail is a mirror of his mind. His gracefulness is surpassed only by his agility. And, along with all these, he has a sense of humor.
Walter Chandoha

With his extraordinary style and unique flair, beloved artist Charles Wysocki captures the essence of our favorite felines on canvas and brings them to life in his own words. These adorable characters will warm your heart and make you smile with their literary escapades, culinary capers, and fishing foibles.

You'll find yourself charmed with these purrrrfectly delightful snippets on life from our feline friends.

Oh, MaryZee!! I can hardly believe that I won this book and the fabulous tote bag it came in!! We had a rich abundance of door prizes at the convention, donated by so very many generous bookcrossers from all over, but the moment we unpacked this one and I set eyes on it, I fell in love with it! I had a Wysocki calendar last year and I just love his work.

The convention was a great success and it was great to meet so many Bookcrossers in person. Perhaps next year, you will be one of them!

Thanks again!

Ok, this is officially making the move from TBR category to PC category!

I read through it this afternoon and I just have to quote my 2 favourite poems here:

Cats sleep anywhere, any table, any chair.
Top of piano, window-ledge, in the middle, on the edge.
Open drawer, empty shoe, anybody's lap will do.
Fitted in a cardboard box, in the cupboard with your frocks.
Anywhere! They don't care! Cats sleep anywhere.
-- by Eleanor Farjeon

(so true!! See my profile pic! The only place she seems to have missed is the bathroom sink and tub!)

And this one:

Sandpaper kisses
On a cheek or a chin
That is the way
for a day to begin.

Sandpaper kisses
A cuddle and a purr.
I have an alarm clock
That's covered in fur!

It feels right to send this book almost full circle. I think I know exactly who will treasure it now...

Enjoy, my friend :-)

Wow! I took some time before I wrote this journal entry (as I told you I would). It makes me both happy and sad to read the above journal entries.

Mary Zee was a Bookcrossing friend of mine whom I got to know when she joined my local BookCrossing club, BCinDC. She also led her own Bookcrossing club in Carroll County, Maryland. She was an avid Bookcrosser for such a long time that I was thrilled to finally meet her in person and get to know her. I appreciated her most at local book festivals where she would talk up Bookcrossing to whoever wanted to listen to her! Sadly, her death came unexpectedly and was a great loss for her family and friends and certainly for all of us in BCinDC,

Friendship is a funny thing. I always thought that you, jessibud, were my "friend" from our long association as BookCrossing penpals. Then, wonder of wonders, I got to meet you in person as you extended a gracious invitation for me to visit you in Toronto. So now we are real friends!

Yes, this book has come full circle. I will treasure this volume because it went from friend to friend to me...and talks about cats...which we all love. Why do so many BookCrossers love cats?! :)

My plans for this book are to read it first, then share it with fellow BCinDC members who also knew MaryZee, and finally to keep it as part of my permanent collection. I'll probably also share it with my daughter who is now owned by three cats (I'm only owned by two feral cats presently) and with my friend from Catonsville, Maryland, who was formerly owned by four cats.

Thank you, jessibud, for such a meaningful RABCK along with fun Toronto buttons, a card, and useful bookmarks. You are so sweet! I'm looking forward to the day that I can reciprocate your wonderful hospitality. I hope that day comes soon. You may also want to reread this book when you come to visit me! I'll have to keep it handy. :)

This book about cats is special to me because I and so many of my friends find cats to be rather delightful. It was fun to read the quotations about cats, but absolutely amazing to see the detailed art work by Charles Wysocki as he draws cats in some rather complicated places and poses!

Picked this up at the BCinDC holiday party. It's lovely to have a book in my hand that came from dear MaryZee. I cherish the chance to read it and keep it traveling to others who loved MaryZee. Thank you so much for the chance, jessibud & SqueakyChu! *hugs*

Journal Entry 9 by KateKintail at Burke, Virginia USA on Sunday, February 11, 2018
This is a sweet book showcasing the author's cat art. He discusses the cats in his life who have become the subjects of his pieces. In-between each piece are quotes about cats--some from sources unknown, some from famous names, and some from book passages. In the margins and on every page are little bits of his works, a kettle from one piece here, a cat sleeping behind some books there. It makes the whole book drip with his style and scream cat. There are also so many incredible details like fun punny titles of newspapers and books on shelves. Each of the cats has its own personality and flair.

This was a lovely, heartwarming, fun read. I look forward to sharing it with fellow BCinDC members and watching it move around. I'm so glad MaryZee put this book out there into the world so we can all continue to enjoy it!

Am attaching a photo of my current two cats: Ozma and Charlie.

Something with a cat is bound to attract my attention. I knew that I would have time to read this no matter what. Then to find out it was MaryZee's book. She always asked me about my cat when we talked and cat books remind me of her. It seems fitting that I picked this up at the meet-up where we were honoring the memory of Becky (NRJyzer) and her February birthday, as well as remembering FURBALL, who died last February.

A lovely collection of cat portraits by Wysocki, a couple of which I would like a copy of to hang on my walls. These are accompanied by information about the feline models and groups of quotes about cats. Made me smile.

A collection of cat paintings and brief stories about the cats depicted in them, interspersed with cat-related quotes. Very cute, perhaps not so memorable. I liked some of the artistic notes on why he chose certain settings, but by and large it's just a cat book.

I love cat tales. This book is circulating among the BCinDC members. I noticed it was registered by BC'er "MaryZee". I never did have the opportunity to meet MaryZ, but I do know she is much missed by the BCinDC group. A BCinDC meet-up is held every November in MaryZ's memory at Birdies' Cafe in Westminster, Md.

I caught this book at the BookCrossing Meetup at Birdie's Cafe in which most of us wore red to celebrate the DC Nationals winning the World Series in baseball this week. Hurray for the Nationals, and thank you for this book!

This book has now come home to be part of my permanent collection! :D

I just found the cat bookmark and cat paper clip. So cute!

Journal Entry 22 by jessibud at Toronto, Ontario Canada on Sunday, November 3, 2019
I just have to mention that the Washington Nationals were originally my very own beloved Montreal Expos! Did you know that? The morning after the win last week, our CBC sorts guy led his report by saying: "At last! The Expos win the World Series!"

:-)

(you know I am originally from Montreal, right?) ;-)

Journal Entry 23 by wingSqueakyChuwing at Rockville, Maryland USA on Sunday, November 3, 2019
I did not know that about the Montreal Expos. However, I’m still sad about the embarrassing soccer defeat of my beloved DC United by Toronto FC in the 2019 MSL Eastern division quarterfinals a few weeks ago. At least our baseball clubs are relatively the same team! :D
