I enjoyed this book, it was very reminiscent of some Michael Crichton books I’d read a long time ago, or at least how I remember them. The story line was great with loads of potential which I found really exciting for a debut author. Did I mention already that I love reading debut novels from as yet unknown authors? Just as I was getting into the story and wondering just how it would develop further the book just seemed to run out. Run out of what I don’t know, was it pages, steam, creative juices, it just seemed to lack something for me. I would have like more of a conclusion that the book offered. Perhaps it’s just me, maybe others will enjoy the book for the chase, but the book sprinted towards a numbing inevitability that just fizzled out.

Still a good book from an author that deserves his limelight.

The book is going in the post to the next participant today.

Is igned up for this ring as like Catriona I too like reading debut authors especially ones who are alos bookcrossers. To be honest though I didn't really expect to enjoy it as it's not a genre I've read for many years. I'm pleased to say, however, that I really did enjoy it and quickly became involved in the characters and the storyline. Well done Clive I look forward to reading your next book.

I'll now PM Rillaith and set it on it's way again.

Journal Entry 7 by Rillaith from Wokingham, Berkshire United Kingdom on Saturday, April 15, 2006
Arrived safe and sound on Wednesday morning. Unfortunately, so have another (*counts*) 6 ring books all at once, so (in order of arrival) this is number 4 on Mount Toobee. I do like the book itself, though ... it has a really nice feel to it. Good work on the publishing format, Clive.

Journal Entry 8 by Rillaith from Wokingham, Berkshire United Kingdom on Monday, May 8, 2006
I definitely enojyed this book. Well paced, a great storyline, first and middle "halves" were nicely balanced and worked really well.

I do know what catrionamoore meant though - I wouldn't go as far as to say "a numbing inevitability" but it did seem to run out of steam a bit toward the very end. I'm equally hard pushed to put my finger on exactly what; a bit too much giving in straightaway, perhaps, or not quite enough fluff around it so it seemed too quick... perhaps a little more exploration of the consequences (potential or actual) might have filled the gap. It had a bit of the feel of "To be continued..." except that a sequel would have to introduce a naturally existing or arising Darwinian burn-out for the infectious agent, or the story would almost be over before it had had a chance to start! (Hmm, actually, there's potential there... ;) )

All in all, though, really quite an excellent book, and much better than the first novels are many other authors who've gone on to great things!

Thanks to evil-C for sending us BCUKers some copies to spread around!

The book arrived here just now, thanks! I can't wait to read it. I do have a couple of other ring books here that arrived earlier in the week though so I need to read those and then I'll get on with this. I'll journal it again when I've read it.

I really enjoyed this book. I started it yesterday afternoon and finished it in the early hours of this morning, I found I couldn't put it down. I actually liked how the end came so quickly, I think I was so engrossed in the story that by the end I just really wanted to know what was going to happen to the main characters. If this had been dragged out I know I would have been very tempted to skip ahead, which would have spoiled things a bit. I loved the suspense of the book, it was great how it was set out in the three parts and the reader really has no idea what is going on during the entire first part. This is what hooked me.

I will definitely be in the queue to read any further books by Clive Wright.

* * * I've already PM'd PatchworkPerson and am just waiting for an address now. I'll send the book on as soon as I can. * * *

My first debut author & I really enjoyed the book although I was left wanting more at the end. As Rillaith said, it has a 'to be continued' feel to it. I felt the pace was good & the characters interesting. It's one of those books that made me think "I'll just see what happens in the next chapter" & in 2 nights (ok, early mornings) I'd finished.

It's scary to imagine that maybe this could actually happen.

I look forward to reading your next book, Clive.

I really enjoyed this book. I thought it well written and liked the three divisions. I got into it right from the start and couldn't put it down. The pace of the story was always speeding up so the quick ending was perfect, in my opinion. I would like there to be a sequel, set in this "perfect" world with, perhaps, someone trying to find the antidote.

One to race through!
A great sense of pace, from the excellent beginning, where Ian's fear of the others was almost tangible and there was a real sense of foreboding of horrors to come, to the inevitable end.

I have RubyBlueLady's address (formerly Avebury surfer) so will get it off to her tomorrow.

I have absolutely no memory of signing up for this book LOL! Oh well, never mind.

I have got two other rings to read in first, so I hope no one is in a hurry for it!

What a cracking, thought provoking read! I thought the chapter that introduced kathy had some dodgy bits in it and was worried the book was going to be amateur but I was wrong, I'm glad to say. You know you've read a good book when you're still thinking about it a few days later.

Journal Entry 24 by Lutrus from Canterbury, Kent United Kingdom on Saturday, August 26, 2006

OMG I'm so sorry. I just found this lurking at the bottom of my BC bag. I'm not even sure if I've read it although I'm pretty sure DH (Rebus5) has. I'll get him to add a few comments later and will PM Justifier now for his address. Again I'm really sorry for holding the book up.
