From the back cover:
In the sequel to I, Claudius a republican Roman Emperor writes the inside story of his reign.
Men classed Claudius as a pitiful fool. But the reign he describes is far from folly. Reluctantly launched into the purple, he emerges as a man who erred on the side of good nature and credulity. Tt is the common people and the common soldiers who sustain him in his efforts to repair the damage of Caligula's reign, in his relations with the Jewish king, Herod Agrippa, his conquest of Britain, and his final reckoning with his promiscuous wife, Messalina.
In one of the finest historical reconstructions of the century Robert Graves has created a character to compare with Dostoyevsky's Prince Myshkin.

As mentioned in the matching post for I Claudius, five books have arrived in 5 days and I am buried in the middle of a ring and now have to decide which to start on next...
I will keep you and the other ringers up to date on my progress. Hopefully I won't be too long!
Thanks for sending these along, its delicious to know these are waiting for me... especially now that is starting to get cold, brrrr!

picked up from my mailbox today.
Gracious, I had forgotten how wordy Graves is! I had read "I Claudius" around 20 years ago and remember enjoying it, so was very interested in this ring to do "Claudius the God".
It's going to take me a while - saturday afternoons with cups of tea is the best way to consume a classic I find.
If anyone is in a hurry to move this on let me know and I'll continue my graves experience with the local library.
thanks all for your patience.

What a wonderful character! I really enjoyed this book although I do admit to speedreading over a number of the battles - a little too much detail here for my interest.
The research into the period is nothing short of amazing. "The glory that was rome" has been captured magnificently.
I believe I am seeing Jubby at the sydney meetup tonight and will pass this and "I, Claudius" over then.

I really enjoyed reading 'I, Claudius'. It was like visiting a old friend. The details and research that must have gone into it is incredible.
But, sadly my school holidays have come to an end, so I will not be reading 'Claudius the god'. Another time perhaps.
Posting on to Hotfrog.

Received a few days ago. I'm a bit busy at present, but have always wanted to read it's companion in this bookring I Claudius. Will get to them as soon as I can.
Sent Claudius back to Tantan, with apologies for holding on to it for so long.
(Was unable to contact miss-gonwest to finish the ring)
