I found this to be a lovely, undemanding, bitterseet novel set in Sicily. It journals the growing up of the foody/ cooking obsessed heroine, Rosa Fiore and details her one summer of love with the mysterious l'Inglese.
Throughout there are descriptions of the food she quite obviously loves preparing and enjoying. Indeed on pages 180 to 182 there is quite the most superb description of how best to present and consume oysters!
