A story of several people finding themselves in the Nautilus, an old building with dreams of Utopia. The story focuses on Rowena, who believes her life to be lonely and useless from her orphaned life onwards, who does not see her own kindness through her doubts.
There are also Celeste with her fierce dreams and her family who drop into the story and leave. And Francis, an ageing poet who needs some courage to face the town and his forgetful words. And Gus, Mr Fix-It who unwisely and sorrowfully lost his family. And of course, the Natterjacks fixing stuff and a elf-like teenager Rhiannon and the people who somehow meet the people in the Nautilus and all the frailties of people who wonder and dream how to be among other people.
