A very odd book about vampires which I keep seeing recommended here and there and everwhere. I'm not sure why. It's not a chipper and funny as Buffy, it's not light and fluffy like Undead and Unwed. It's dark, unapologetically so; it's a world unto itself somehow wedged into one familiar; it's well-written with interesting characters and unexplored (and unexplained) mysteries. It pulls you in like the smoky backroom of a too-crowded bar, and holds you with intoxicated fingers until you're done reading - and the moment you gasp your first bit of fresh air on the last page, you find yourself wishing you could go back in.

Yeah. Maybe that's it.
