Quite a funny read in the end, though not very challenging.

I had read a book about the history of England by this author, and found it to be entertaining and very funny. Then I realized I had this novel by him too, so pulled it out of MT TBR.
Enjoyable enough, funny throughout but with a fair amount of seriousness and pathos. Not really (well, not at all) being the mum and family type, I could relate to the protagonist a lot and found myself really disliking his wife, which I am sure was not the author's intention.
