I quite liked Beccy & all the gang at the Fishcastle, although I think Jennifer should have left Marlin to his own devices - he almost deserved Lucretia. It was a nice story, well-written in an almost lyrical style, but it didn't stir me much.

Beccy's friends, Marlin, Hesta & Jennifer live in a big house on the bay; her mother is addicted to prescription medicine since the stillbirth of another child; and Proudie Bay is starting to be "developed". Beccy manages her life, love & happiness very well between caring for her mother, cooking & art, with the help of her friends. Her best friend, Meg, is the daughter of the married man who is paying for Miriam's flat, the developer. Marlin is a great friend of Bec's, but is very mean to Jennifer, the daughter who has been looking after him since she was a child & her mother died. I didn't like the man - he deserved to be duped by Lucretia, whom he married - but it was a pity it had to happen to Jennifer & Hesta (Marlin's sister-in-law).
